    A.S. Health Information Technology - Associate

    Get the training you need for a career in health information technology. Professionals in this field may hold a position as clinical documentation specialist, document imaging technician, or medical records analyst, just to name a few. Work environments may include physicians’ offices, insurance companies, health technology companies and hospitals.

    As a UMA student in this online program, you’ll learn how to create, maintain and process electronic health records, help ensure data privacy and security, and more. Some classes you would take include “Introduction to Healthcare Computer Information Systems” and “Medical Terminology.” UMA provides an engaging online learning experience with personal feedback from instructors, educational videos and live study group sessions. Typically, students complete this associate degree program in 17 months.*

    A.S. Health Sciences - Medical Administrative Assistant - Associate

    Ultimate Medical Academy’s online Associate of Science in Health Science with a Concentration in Medical Administrative Assistant prepares you to assist with the day-to-day operations of a medical practice.

    You may be interested in a career in medical administration if you like to create processes, communicate in writing and face-to-face, keep a business running smoothly, work with teams, enhance customer satisfaction, manage varied tasks, provide quality service and update medical records. If you are a people person, are organized and desire a Monday through Friday schedule, medical administration may be a career path for you.

    As a UMA graduate, you may consider entry-level positions as an office manager, medical office secretary, medical office assistant, assistant administrator or various positions in hospitals, doctor’s offices, outpatient clinics and other healthcare facilities.

    At 60 semester credits, this associate degree program can be completed between 61-96 weeks. All courses are online and are five weeks in length, allowing you, with full time study, to graduate quickly.     A.S. Medical Billing and Coding - Associate

    Ultimate Medical Academy’s online Associate of Science in Medical Billing and Coding prepares graduates to understand the coding of healthcare services and how to process healthcare claims with insurance companies. A diagnosis code (ICD-9) and a procedure code (CPT) is assigned to patient care activities. A medical billing and coding professional understand codes and uses this knowledge to submit claims to insurance companies in order obtain payments for work performed by a healthcare provider. It is through these codes that practitioners are paid by insurance companies.

    You may be interested in a career in medical billing and coding if you would like to work in an office, follow exact procedures, use a computer, manage interactions with healthcare providers and insurance companies and are confident in managing confidential information. If you can understand and memorize details, and are good with follow up and organization, medical billing and coding may be a career for you. Reading and doing research is also an important part of the job.

    Our curricula cover a range of subjects including medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, surgical procedures, insurance claims, healthcare payers, procedure and diagnosis coding from medical records, reimbursement systems, facility billing, keyboarding, word processing and medical practice management. Math, English, biology and sociology are also required to round out your associate’s degree education. You also take a course in which you participate in practical simulations and where you prepare for the certification process.

    UMA’s curriculum prepares you to sit for the Certified Professional Coding (CPC) exam offered through the American Academy of Professional Coding (AAPC).

    Health Sciences Associate (Pharm. Tech.) - Associate

    Graduates of the Health Science A.S. will:

    • Earn an associate degree with an area of concentration.
    • Take general education courses in English, math, biology and social sciences.
    • Take elective courses in topics including accounting, computers, psychology, patient relations and more.
    • Prepare to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam.
    • Have potential for greater earnings.
    • Have potential for increased employment opportunities.

    The UMA Pharmacy Technician program offers a career-focused curriculum that can help you acquire the knowledge, skills and confidence to support licensed pharmacists by assisting with counter dispensing operations and prescription preparation at retail pharmacies, mail-order pharmacies, hospitals, nursing homes and assisted-living facilities. In approximately 14-22 months, you can learn how to:

    • Stock and inventory prescriptive and over-the-counter medications.
    • Maintain written or computerized patient medication records.
    • Count or pour medications into dispensing containers.
    • Manage the cash register and/or billing
    • Assemble a twenty-four hour supply of medication for each patient.
    • Re-package medications
    • Prepare commercially unavailable medications.
    • Deliver medications to patient rooms.
    • Establish and maintain patient profiles.
    • Prepare insurance claim forms.



    Medical Administrative Assistant Diploma - Diploma
