A.S. Health Information Technology - Associate

Ultimate Medical Academy’s online Associate of Science in Health Information Technology prepares you to use computer hardware and software for the collection, analysis and maintenance of digital patient information. Electronic health records (EHR) allow patient information to be easily and securely shared among various healthcare facilities. Health information technology professionals work closely with Health Information Management (HIM) and Information Technology (IT) departments to ensure EHR quality. They document how information will flow between departments and are concerned about the privacy and security of patient data.

If you enjoy working behind the scenes with computers, a career in health information technology could be a great match for you. Health information technology is a career that does not involve direct patient care. Professionals in this industry are analytical, well-organized, detail oriented and enjoy problem solving.

As a graduate of UMA’s program, you may consider entry-level positions as a health information clerk, medical records coordinator, medical records analyst, document imaging technician, receptionist, medical records technician or various positions in hospitals, doctors’ offices, insurance companies or health technology firms.

At 63.5 semester credits, this associate degree can be completed in approximately 73 weeks. Online courses are five weeks in length, allowing you to graduate quickly with full-time study. Health Sciences Associate (Pharm. Tech.) - Associate

Graduates of the Health Science A.S. will:

  • Earn an associate degree with an area of concentration.
  • Take general education courses in English, math, biology and social sciences.
  • Take elective courses in topics including accounting, computers, psychology, patient relations and more.
  • Prepare to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam.
  • Have potential for greater earnings.

The UMA Pharmacy Technician program offers a career-focused curriculum that can help you acquire the knowledge, skills and confidence to support licensed pharmacists by assisting with counter dispensing operations and prescription preparation at retail pharmacies, mail-order pharmacies, hospitals, nursing homes and assisted-living facilities. In approximately 14-22 months, you can learn how to:

  • Stock and inventory prescriptive and over-the-counter medications.
  • Maintain written or computerized patient medication records.
  • Count or pour medications into dispensing containers.
  • Manage the cash register and/or billing
  • Assemble a twenty-four hour supply of medication for each patient.
  • Re-package medications
  • Prepare commercially unavailable medications.
  • Deliver medications to patient rooms.
  • Establish and maintain patient profiles.
  • Prepare insurance claim forms.



Medical Administrative Assistant Diploma - Diploma
